Brighton training

The realisation has hit me this week that I am not just going to Brighton for a weekend away in April but I am in fact going to be running a marathon whilst there 😬. I have concerns, surely everyone does at this stage?! I am overthinking it 🙄 am I doing enough training? Am I running far enough on my long runs? Should I be eating differently? Do I need to buy a new pair of trainers (any excuse 😉)? I woke up this morning and thought, why am I doing this? Why can’t I just enjoy this experience and stop worrying about what could go wrong. So that’s what I am going to do – yes it’s easier said than done, I know that, but I am enjoying the training (I really am) and I appreciate having buddies to do this with (thank you Jo, Tina and Zoe). So I am obviously going to get nervous and anxious about the day, it’s a big thing but I need to make sure I don’t let this take over my enjoyment of it. In fact I would even go as far as saying I will be excited about it – it’s the whole experience of going there for the weekend, getting to the expo and collecting numbers then meeting up with friends for a pre-race meal Saturday and being at that start line with the other runners who will probably be feeling very similar to how I will. This week there’s been a few people asking me about a time I have in mind, but I am not even going to think about it, I just want to have a good fun time and yes it would be great to get a decent time (I really should be able to beat my London time) but its more about completing it whilst enjoying it and not being in pain for weeks afterwards. Another long training run is planned for this weekend and I am looking forward to the four of us heading out again, the talk and giggles will get us through the miles.

Nutrition didn’t start well this week, I had such a hunger on throughout Monday I ate anything I could get my hands on. Although the flapjack bites worked well on the long run, it left me with a box 3/4 full which I couldn’t keep my hands off! So I’ve hidden them in the boot of the car along with the mccoys. Next week I’ll buy a bar and cut it into pieces, I may also try a mars bar which has been suggested to me this week. I had tummy issues after Tuesday’s run, I’m not sure if this is down to the extra crumpet I had beforehand (definitely need to keep it light before a run) or if it’s down to things beyond my control. It’s all trial and error so I’ll see how it goes. Fluid intake has definitely improved, the squash no doubt helps and I’ve managed 2litres over the last few days with no headaches.
