I’ve had my Nando’s fuelling meal (bit of a ritual, no bones about it sharing platter š ), got an early night and have woken up with a split mind of trying for a PB or taking it easy. I’m very aware of how easy picking up an injury is so I don’t want to overdo it but this is the course I got my last PB at (1:54:30) and its a good course for PB’s so I have heard. There’s 6 of us travelling and turning up together at this race which not only helps with my nerves but makes it a much more enjoyable journey in – I remember last year thinking how nice it would be to turn up as part of a running club and having people there you know. I decide to just run and see how it goes, I have Gouldy by my side for the first 9 miles which is a pleasure as always and a few guys from the club are supporting from the side lines which always gives us a boost. I’d decided at mile 6 to keep up a pace and aim for a PB – there were a few concerning tummy pains along the way but I got to that finish line with a new PB by 4 minutes (1:50:31) which I am over the moon about, you can see from my splits I was pretty consistent with my pacing. The marshals were all great and there was a huge selection of cakes back at the bag drop (a bit of lemon drizzle went down well). Glad to say I had kept this afternoon free to chill out and be at home, after a few shituations I’ve now managed to refuel with the husbands home made burgers š. I think something I need to concentrate on over the next coming weeks with long runs in the pipeline is nutrition and taking on fluids and carbohydrates on the go – I’ll keep you posted.
